PAUL RYPLANSKI Suddenly but peacefully on Wednesday, December 12, 2007 at the Concordia Hospital, with family by his side, Paul Ryplanski, died at the age of 81 years. Paul leaves to cherish his memory, sister Helen, brother Roger (May), daughters, Paulette (husband Paul Ducharme of Spruce Grove, AB), Paula (husband Darryl Marsch); sons, Teddy (wife Sherry), and Tim (wife Kim); 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews. Paul grew up in Pinawa, Manitoba where his Dad worked at the power station for Manitoba Hydro. Paul was a business man from a very young age. He began gardening and selling his fresh produce as a teen and purchased his first taxi cab at the age of 19, which became his life long passion. In fact it was while driving his cab that Paul met the love of his life, Ina. Although Paul owned and operated taxi cabs for over 60 years, he spent time as a plant operator at the power station in Great Falls, MB working for the Manitoba Hydro. There, Paul and Ina owned and operated the grocery store and drive inn chip stand. In 1970 they purchased the Lake View Hotel in St. Laurent, MB before moving the family to Winnipeg in the early 1970s. Paul's skills as meat butcher and a certified refrigeration technician served him well over the years. An accomplished accordion player, Paul played many weddings and social events in Southern Manitoba with many orchestras including the Silver Tone Seven. A devoted husband and father, he worked very hard to ensure his family was always provided for. He had a work ethic second to none and was a man of solid character, honesty, and integrity. Paul finally parked the cab at age 79 and shortly after, received an outstanding service award at the University of Manitoba. In his short retirement he enjoyed gardening and spending time with family. He cared lovingly for his late wife Ina and enjoyed sharing live music at family gatherings. Goodbye #177...King of the Road. A memorial service will take place on Monday, December 17, at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Avenue (Aubrey Street entrance) at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, Manitoba Branch, 730 Taylor Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3M 2K8.
